Create an Origami Display Stand to Highlight Beautiful Folded Paper Art!
I love anything made by hand. I received several beautiful origami pieces and really wanted to display them at home,…but having one crazy kitten bounding around the house made that very difficult! So, I asked my husband if he could make me a display stand that would let me safely showcase the origami birds. Its a great way to ADD WARMTH to your home with something handmade and colorful! I love the final product!
You can make one too! Let me show you how to make an Origami Display Stand! Here’s How!
Step 1: Envision!
The first step is to ENVISION! Decide what you want your Origami Stand to look like! You can sketch something up from your imagination or you can create something based on the materials you have on hand.
We created ours by the “create something based on the materials you have on hand” method! I purchased the Alligator Clip Holders at a local craft store. There were 4 in the package, so I let that dictate the number of Clips to use. My husband looked through the wood he had leftover from other projects and found a piece he thought would work perfectly.
Step 2: Gather Your Supplies!
Here is what you will need to complete your project:
- A piece of wood
- Choose a piece of wood that is big enough / sturdy enough to be able to hold the Clips and Origami without topping over. We used a 26cm long x 3cm wide/high piece of wood.
- A small piece of practice wood
- Sandpaper to sand down and finish your wood
- Some varnish or paint to finish your wood
- Alligator Clip Holders (You can find HERE online)
- A drill and a drill bit similar dimensions to the wire of your Alligator Clip Holders
- Tape Measure
- Epoxy or Crazy-Glue
Step 3: Finish Your Wood and Measure!
Prep your wood so it looks the way you want it to look. Sand down and then use a natural stain or paint to finish your piece of wood. After your wood is dry, measure the spacing for the holes.
Step 4: Drill!
Make a couple practice holes on a spare piece of wood. Choose your drill bit so that is as close as possible in size to the diameter of your Alligator Clip Holder. Practice on some spare wood so that you are able to make a vertical hole (straight up and down, not at an angle or the Clips will be at an angle). Don’t go all the way to the bottom of your wood.
Step 5: Glue!
You are so close to being done! Use 5 Minute Epoxy or Crazy Glue to glue in your Alligator Clip Holders. Set them up so that they are all facing the same way and are the same height. Let dry.
Step 6: DISPLAY!
Clip your Origami Art on to the Display Stand! Stand back and smile!!
Did you do it??? Lemme know! I love ours! Happy Creating!
