Create an Origami Display Stand

Create an Origami Display Stand to Highlight Beautiful Folded Paper Art!

CREATE an Origami Display Stand

I love anything made by hand. I received several beautiful origami pieces and really wanted to display them at home,…but having one crazy kitten bounding around the house made that very difficult! So, I asked my husband if he could make me a display stand that would let me safely showcase the origami birds. Its a great way to ADD WARMTH to your home with something handmade and colorful! I love the final product!

You can make one too! Let me show you how to make an Origami Display Stand! Here’s How!

Step 1: Envision!

The first step is to ENVISION! Decide what you want your Origami Stand to look like! You can sketch something up from your imagination or you can create something based on the materials you have on hand.

We created ours by the “create something based on the materials you have on hand” method! I purchased the Alligator Clip Holders at a local craft store. There were 4 in the package, so I let that dictate the number of Clips to use. My husband looked through the wood he had leftover from other projects and found a piece he thought would work perfectly.

Step 2: Gather Your Supplies!

CREATE SOMETHING with materials you already have on-hand

Here is what you will need to complete your project:

  • A piece of wood
    • Choose a piece of wood that is big enough / sturdy enough to be able to hold the Clips and Origami without topping over. We used a 26cm long x 3cm wide/high piece of wood.
  • A small piece of practice wood
  • Sandpaper to sand down and finish your wood
  • Some varnish or paint to finish your wood
  • Alligator Clip Holders (You can find HERE online)
  • A drill and a drill bit similar dimensions to the wire of your Alligator Clip Holders
  • Tape Measure
  • Epoxy or Crazy-Glue

Step 3: Finish Your Wood and Measure!

CREATE: Measure for the Space Between Each Hole

Prep your wood so it looks the way you want it to look. Sand down and then use a natural stain or paint to finish your piece of wood. After your wood is dry, measure the spacing for the holes.

Step 4:  Drill!

CREATE: Pick a Drill Bit the Same Size as Clips

Make a couple practice holes on a spare piece of wood. Choose your drill bit so that is as close as possible in size to the diameter of your Alligator Clip Holder. Practice on some spare wood so that you are able to make a vertical hole (straight up and down,  not at an angle or the Clips will be at an angle). Don’t go all the way to the bottom of your wood.

Step 5:  Glue!

CREATE: Glue the Holders in to the Wood

You are so close to being done! Use 5 Minute Epoxy or Crazy Glue to glue in your Alligator Clip Holders. Set them up so that they are all facing the same way and are the same height. Let dry.

Step 6:  DISPLAY!

Clip your Origami Art on to the Display Stand! Stand back and smile!!

Did you do it??? Lemme know! I love ours!  Happy Creating!

  1. This is a great idea for displaying things that are so easily ruined. My daughter likes to make origami. Pinning this. Thank you for your nice comment on my 100 Ways to Choose Love post, too. I’d always nice to see a new face there.

  2. What a great idea. My daughter likes to do origami but her creations are so easily ruined. Pinning this. Thank you for your comment in my 100 Simple Ways to Choose Love post. It’s always nice to meet someone new!

Hi! That is exactly why we made the display stand! I had to hide the origamis we received in a drawer or put them up really high so my cat wouldn’t get them. This works perfectly! 🙂

I love it! Have I told you how creative you are lately, Gigi? If not, then let me just say … you are so creative! 😉

  4. Gigi I love this idea. My home is very eclectic and I happen to have a couple of things that would look great in this type of a display.

    Thanks for sharing

Thank you for checking out the post! I love my display stand. It really lets you showcase the origami. You could clip pretty much anything (as long as it wasn’t too big) on the stand. I also have a single stand, with just one alligator clip, to use to showcase cards and photos. 🙂

  5. Such a useful display for all kinds of special things. Nice tutorial too:) My son loved oragami when he was little. I’d find little oragami things everywhere in the house, his notebooks and even pockets!

What a cool way to display a gorgeous piece of art, that’s what these origami are! I’ve tried to fold myself something this lovely and it takes time and skill, this is a beautiful way to show them off. You and your hubby make a great team! It’s perfect!

Thanks Nikki! Yeah,…he loves to work on wood projects. He’s always in the garage doing something. We are a good team :). Thank you Nikki!

Hi Gigi! Ahh, how refreshing. A woman after my own heart, only using what you have. I love this. I’m going to keep it in mind to display some photos. Thanks so much for linking up to Thriving on Thursdays. Hope you come again.

  9. Gigi, this is so cool! I could use this for displaying cards and notes that I hate to throw out (and hate to cut apart to display as I’ve seen others do). Love it! Thank you so much for sharing with #UpsyDaisyLinkup!

Thanks Regina! My husband also made me one with a single clip. That’s exactly what I do— I display a card on it! Thank you for hosting #UpsyDaisyLinkup!
