Okay, How absolutely adorable are these? I mean, really? How cute! I actually didn’t think I was going to like these, but they are seriously good. They are like gourmet Oreos.

These are gourmet Oreos! They didn’t come out as sweet as I thought they would, which I am happy about. I think kids would really love these. Dorie’s instructions were easily recreated. Try the recipe yourself, right HERE or pick up a copy of Dorie’s new book.

I really liked making this recipe!  The most fun part was sandwiching the pieces together and watching the filling spread out to the edges. I used my finger to clean up the edges. I made a half-batch, but froze most of the pre-cut-out dough for potential Thanksgiving use! 🙂 I made a “Pumpkin-O”! I’m thinking I might make a bunch of Pumpkin-Os for a Thanksgiving cookie plate. I might even use a bit of all-natural food coloring to make the filling orange!

As most other TWD bakers said, the dough is really easy to work with. It was really cool to see it change when I was mixing it. At first, after adding the flour and cocoa, I thought,…”uh oh,…this looks too dry,…I might have done something wrong“. But, as I continued mixing, it just changed right before my eyes from a bunch of dust to a beautiful chocolate dough!

The filling is super simple. One suggestion I have is to double the batch so you have the option of making your filling plentiful. ALSO> after filling your sandwich, put the cookies in to the fridge for the crème to harden.

Okay, People. Let me just tell you how PERFECT these are when you freeze them unbaked and then bake them right from the freezer. Cut them in to your shapes first and put them in a plastic bag in your freezer. Literally, just put them on some baking paper and into the oven and they are perfect. You don’t need to change the cooking time or anything. Have someone stopping by? Pull them out of the freezer and mix up your filling. So simple and so delicious!

So far the score is 2/2 from Dorie’s new book! I’ve loved both recipes I’ve made from it! I made Peanut Butter Change-Ups  last time!

      Thank you Nicole! Yes, absolutely delicious and I wasn’t thinking I would like them because I’m not a huge Oreo fan. But they were fantastic! And they bake up perfectly from the freezer too! Major bonus.

    Oh, I love your little pumpkin shaped cookies, how great for this time of year. You certainly know how to smush really nicely…my smushing ability is minimal, I made a smeary mess of it all. lol I’ll work on it and aspire to your neatness.

      Awww, thank you Kayte! I had fun smushing. There were a few cookies where I opened them back up again because I wasn’t happy with my smush. I used a wet fingertip around the edges. Happy Baking!

    What beautiful cookies! I love the pumpkin shape! I was thinking this might be good with a little peppermint added to the filling for the holidays? I think my next batch will be better since I made a couple of mistakes with this batch!
